I think of this as basically using a dorian scale. Starting on D for soprano/tenor and on A for alto/bari.
Replacing tape with cork on my soprano sax.
An idea I liked from Airto that I heard from Gary Meek.
Using C major as the basis for examples.
I also mention another scale that has an interesting sound, the Phrygian Dominant scale.
Using a metronome can be frustrating. Slowing down can help, but different tempos can also feel quite different.
