I made an offer to help subscribers on Sax Station by answering a question and giving feedback on a video of them playing. There are classes and lessons you can buy on Sax Station, but this offer was without cost since I know that could help some people.
It had two requirements.
- Asking a question on this pagehttps://saxstation.com/ask-a-saxophone-questionBy providing some information I ask for on that page, you’ll get a better answer to your question. Asking a very specific question is more likely to be helpful. If you have already asked a question using that page, you do not need to ask another one, but you can.
2. Sending me a link to a video on Youtube of yourself playing and mentioning Sax Station
1. One subscriber, who has been reading my emails for about three years had this exchange with me.
I’m to embarrassed to do this at this time…
-T.
Why is that? Do you know some songs?-Neal
…..
I did not hear from him again after that question. I understand that people can be critical on Youtube, but you could disable comments/ratings if you really wanted. It can be uncomfortable to put yourself out there, however, that’s basically what you do as a musician when you perform for people.
It’s good to realize that you’re not the top saxophone player in the world. Feedback from a teacher can help you improve though.
2. Another subscriber, Calvin, who has been reading Sax Station since April of this year asked a question,
How long should a a two or three-year person who’s playing the sax practice?
To which I responded,
Regarding your question about how much you should practice, what are you trying to do with the saxophone? Do you want to play in a band? Play for people? Record? Just have fun with it?
How much you practice really depends on what you’re trying to do.
And he submitted a video, which you can see and also see the feedback for on this page,

The difference
Yes, you can potentially be criticized. But as I’m writing this, Calvin got three ‘thumbs up’ (no thumbs down) and 19 views. So a few people were encouraging and the entire planet did not watch the video.
Calvin was willing to be a little bit uncomfortable to get some help.
So I think I’ll continue to make this offer available. May change the availability depending on what happens. Do those two steps and contact me if you’re interested.
And there are classes and lessons you can buy on Sax Station as well!
