“If I don’t practice for a day, I know it. If I don’t practice for two days, the critics know it. And if I don’t practice for three days, the public knows it.”
-Louis Armstrong
If Louis Armstrong practiced trumpet every day, there a pretty good chance you should practice your saxophone every day!
It’s not going to help nearly as much if you practice for several hours only once a week.
Just as exercise by running once a year isn’t effective, practicing saxophone every day will make you sound much better.
Even if it’s only 15 minutes.
Ideally it won’t be, but if that’s all you have, then just practice for that amount of time.
Setting up a consistent time and place to practice can make this a good habit that you form.

4 days a week practice, usually 1 to 2 hours
+ one day lesson… but I have my work on the side 🙂

good sit man. you can get alot of tips from cats here and hopefully we can all help each other with little info. we can all learn from each other. leave the egos at the door, music has no room for posers. gato told me at a gig that he uses a bellhausen mouthpiece. never heard of it. maybe he was sick and tired of being asked that question. if you use gatos mouthpiece that does not mean you will sound like him. he would sound like gato on a student mouthpiece. get your own identity. if you have any questions about mouthpieces and i can help feel free to ask. i’m a sax player that has tried many. you name it i’ve tried it. keep practicing and living life to the fullest. parker said, and i’ve heard this before that if you don’t experience life it won’t come out of your horn. a 10 yearold cannot sing ” in the wee small hours” like sinatra. he lived it and he made you believe it. a wrong note will sound right if you believe it.

Hey Elliot,
Thanks for writing. Seems like you have a good attitude about music. And that’s really cool you met Gato.
