“Talking about music is like dancing about architecture.”
-Thelonious Monk
Dancing can express ideas too! Talking can be more efficient in expressing ideas. If it’s done by people who know what they’re talking about.
Sometimes talking doesn’t really express anything though- think about certain politicians.
You can research music and learn all the theory, but it’s not going to matter until you apply it and bring it into your playing.
So worrying about how to solo isn’t going to be as effective as just doing it.
Learning new things is great, but then apply them to the music!

Hey Barry,
Chord changes often move in fourths. In blues you go from the I to IV and the V is also in there.
You can use the circle to practice different keys- by playing in the different keys and going around all the keys using the pattern of the circle.
It ‘makes sense’ in a way to the ear.

neal tell everyone the true masters are people like, dave liebman, barry harris, joe allard, mario rivera, joe lovano, henderson, sanchez, coltrane. brecker. there so many unheralded musicians that i would spent a week naming them. Hey, President Clinton the other night was on elvis costellos show and said he has a bunch of saxophones. vintage, he is very knowledgable when it comes to jazz and the horn. Jasmina anema met President Obama. did you see the pic in the daily news. she is a young girl with a rare disease. I had to tell you that. She’s my girl and yours. I have to write a tune for her. That news is more important than any scale or improvisation lesson. Support live music and look into becoming a Bone marrow donor. Do one good deed get ten back. This site is cool for beginners and cats who have nevr seen coltrane and getz play together. I’ll keep dropping in. make sure you give out the correct info to students. there are alot of fakers and people who just rephrase other cat lessons. If you want to learn about sax emboucher and overtones check out Dave Liebman. Get the right info to the people.

Thanks Elliot,
I’ll check that out. Becoming a bone marrow donor is the one that you just need a cheek swab, no?
And Dave Liebman’s stuff is cool. I’ve read some of his writing.
