You might clean your saxophone out regularly, you might not.

Leaving it out to dry helps to some extent.

But do you think much about the mouthpiece cap?  Have you ever thought to clean that?

There might be a hole in the top, in which case it’s got some ventilation.  Other mouthpiece caps for saxophone don’t have that hole.

I hadn’t looked at my cap closely for a while.

It was a little gnarly inside….

So do yourself a favor and check out the inside of your mouthpiece cap and clean it if you need to!
