Question:
So I just started the foundations class over the weekend. I’ve been practicing well before hand and have been going through the material pretty well. When I got to the issue of playing ‘The Man on the Flying Trapeze’ it uses one flat key. I saw the diagram, but I am not sure how to position my hands to play B flat. Any suggestions?

You use the side of your right hand to press the side key for Bb, but you want to keep your other fingers in contact with the keys while you do it. It’s easy to let your fingers fly for this fingering, but it’s not a habit you want to develop.
It’s a little hard to explain in words though, so here is a video with a couple of angles.

Regarding tongueing (sp?), from many years ago on the clarinet, I recall using “ta” to tongue a note. For a series of notes in rapid succession, we used “ta, ca, ta, ca.” The process kind of rolls from the front to the back of the tongue and back again to the front, back as often as needed. The technique was put forth as a means of rapid, Picasa tongueing.

Thanks Jason,
Hadn’t heard of that concept before. Was that related to this post though?
