Question:
“Intrepet F-6 for me please. and A7+9. Is the ninth note in the dominant scale normal and not flat??”
-Kevin
Response:
F-6 is an F minor sixth chord. A minor chord with a sixth (major sixth). The minor third makes it minor, it has a sixth on top instead of a seventh.
A7+9 is an A dominant seventh chord with an augmented 9th. That means raise the 9th by a half step.

Hi Neal
If you are improvising and you see in the music a suggested chord (to go with the backing track) is there any suggested notes from that chord that you should play – ie a sort of mathematical formula which sounds better – other than the ii V I progression (as I don’t imagine you want to use that all the time). I guess really musical people will instinctively know what sounds good – but I am unfortunately not one of those lucky people.

No, there isn’t a mathematical formula.
Certain notes you want to tend to emphasize, like the 3 and 7.
