While playing a piece in sax, I observed that sometimes in staff piece, a note like crotchet might be drawn on G (second line of the treble clef), then on top of the note B flat is written. So, I wish to ask for the function of the B flat which is written on top of the note.

Those are the chord changes. The harmony that the melody fits into. Played by the bass/piano/guitar/etc.
