The other day, Joseph told me about a sax player I had never heard of before. Decided to check it out. And I liked his sound!
His solo is at about 3:52
Willis “Gator” Jackson – Nuther’n Like Thuther’n. On tenor saxophone. Will be checking out more of his music! Are you familiar with Willis “Gator” Jackson? And/or have some other musical recommendations?

He’s a great player, with some serious sense of groove. (Pat Martino on Guitar!!). I’d recommend Gene Ammons, Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis, Stanley Turrentine, Hank Crawford, and of course, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson. Most of these players embraced the RnB, Blues-infused, rock n roll sound, which everyone loves. Of course there’s the contemporary player Joshua Redman, who is a killer cat that plays a lot in this style. Check out his album ‘Freedom in the Groove’ (1996).
Neal says
Definitely. Hamza’s a fan of Eddie Vinson too. I saw Joshua Redman not too long ago- he played and gave a clinic in Monterey. Had seen him live before. He puts on a great show. And yep, ‘Freedom in the Groove’ is a cool album.
