Round Midnight on Soprano Sax – Neal
At the Monterey Jazz Festival this year, they did a tribute to Sonny Rollins.
Branford Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Joe Lovano, and Jimmy Heath were all on stage.
Jimmy Heath is 90 years old.
They finished the night on Saturday and played some tunes together as well as each playing a tune with one saxophone. The tune that Jimmy Heath chose, possibly related to the time they played it (closing the show that night), Round Midnight by Thelonious Monk and played it on soprano sax.
I had played the tune before, but decided to go back and relearn it on soprano after that.

Short video and actually it’s with Fausto from Krooktone Classics.
Isn’t She Lovely on Alto Sax
Leads in with a C# to an F on alto sax. You could just start with the F. I heard a sax player play it this way.
That means it would go up to a Bb on tenor or soprano.
Try learning it by ear! That’s how I learned it.
Check out my classes or Saxophone Tribe if you would like my help.
Saxophone Commentary on Starcraft Remastered Game
There’s a game called Starcraft which is played competitively as well as a sequel (II).
I play a little. Was playing one game and the guy playing me started off being rude pretty much from the beginning. I figured he might win, since I don’t play a ton.
But I kept playing. The game goes for about six minutes.
Then I thought it might be fun to add some saxophone to the game. So I recorded over with some soprano sax.
Had been thinking about music as a conversation recently, especially after talking to Jeff Coffin again.
